As a confirmed sushi lover who is very particular about my spicy tuna roll, imagine my surprise when I discovered some of the best sushi in the Southern California desert at the new VUE Grille & Bar located in the Indian Wells Golf Resort. And, beyond the new sushi bar helmed by famous sushi Chef Akio Naito, diners will savor Executive Chef Cale Falk’s new seasonal, farm-to-table VUE menu with tantalizing dishes incorporating ingredients from local farms and nearby ranches. Gather a group of family, friends and/or colleagues for the special large party lunch and dinner multicourse menus. The bar specializes in hand crafted cocktails and offers an extensive sake and wine list, as well as local craft beers from local breweries like La Quinta Brewing Company and Saint Archer.
With its trendy yet luxurious interior that gives a nod to the colors and feel of the surrounding desert, plus live entertainment six nights a week, the VUE Grille & Bar is already becoming a social and dining hub for Indian Wells hotel guests and area residents. Dine indoors or out on the terrace. Either way, the fairway and mountain vistas are simply spectacular and will have you coming back for the VUE time and again.

Last fall I ran into an old high school friend who is now a popular Los Angeles-based television actor. He and a group of pals – some of whom had flown in from across the country – were relaxing and enjoying lunch at the IW Club after a spectacular morning of golf on the Indian Wells Golf Resort’s world-renowned courses. And why not? The legendary Indian Wells Golf Resort is the ideal facility for a guys golf getaway and has long been a favorite destination for celebrities, golf tournaments of every size and skill level, and even PGA pros and presidents. And with summer golf course maintenance just about complete, the fairways and greens are lusher than ever. In fact, there’s no time like the present to bond with your buddies, find your perfect swing on the championship Celebrity and Players courses, and take advantage of all the amenities that Indian Wells hotels, resorts and restaurants have to offer. Indian Wells’ four luxurious hotels generally offer special golf packages and rates year-round. Right now, check out Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa’s Stay & Play Unlimited package valid through 12/31/13 and Miramonte Resort & Spa’s “Tee for Two” Unlimited Golf package.

Forget Black Friday and the hordes of shoppers – my favorite holiday pastime the day after Thanksgiving is to head to the Miramonte Resort & Spa in Indian Wells. That’s when the Miramonte unveils its amazing Gingerbread Village display built by desert residents and guests during the month of November. It’s also the start of the Miramonte’s annual Desert Holidays program, a five-week long extravaganza celebrating the joyful, playful spirit of the season. Recognized as one of the top destination spas in North America, this intimate Mediterranean-style resort hosts a delightful spectrum of holiday events throughout the season – from holiday cooking classes, chestnut roasting and s’mores toasting under the stars to live entertainment, wine dinners and Grove Artisan Kitchen’s “Holiday Dining Around the World” menus. And be sure to pamper your body and spirit this season at the Miramonte’s enchanting WELL Spa, which features holiday-inspired specialty treatments like Hot Toddy for the Body and the Winter Wonderland Facial!

12TH ANNUAL INDIAN WELLS ARTS FESTIVAL
ADDS “OBJET TROUVÉ” FOUND ART FESTIVAL
CREATING A FESTIVAL OF FESTIVALS
New at the 12th annual Indian Wells Arts Festival, held April 4 through 6, 2014, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, will be the Coachella Valley’s first-ever Objet Trouvé Found Art Festival, creating a Festival of Festivals.
Objet Trouvé is the idea of using everyday objects and ‘found’ materials to create stimulating works of art.
The Objet Trouvé Found Art Festival is the genesis of two Coachella Valley-based non-profit art organizations, the Coachella Valley Arts Alliance and the Student Creative Recycle Art Program (S.C.R.A.P. Gallery). The Indian Wells Arts Festival, in conjunction with the Objet Trouvé Found Art Festival, is looking to celebrate one of the most cutting-edge and innovative forms of art.
“We are delighted to announce this innovative new festival within the Indian Wells Arts Festival,” said Dianne Funk, Indian Wells Arts Festival founder and producer. “Our goals to present quality art and partner with outstanding community organizations meets a perfect match with S.C.R.A.P. Gallery and the Coachella Valley Arts Alliance. Their vision for the Objet Trouvé Found Art Festival adds a whole new dimension to the arts festival experience.”
Call for Objet Trouvé Artists: Artists interested in participating in the Objet Trouvé Festival are encouraged to apply online at http://objettrouvefoundartfestival.com/#dashboard

When my friends and I are in the mood for expert rubbing, scrubbing, peeling and polishing – not to mention a megadose of deep relaxation – we head to the superb spa retreats of Indian Wells, California for the ultimate girlfriend getaway.
The Agua Serena Spa at Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort and Spa is one of our favorites. A peaceful lake surrounds the 30,000 square-foot wellness haven, which, among its many amenities, houses 18 treatment rooms with private garden patios and the adjacent Medical and Skin Spa. The Agua Serena spa menu boasts a variety of massages, facial and body treatments sure to delight your gal pals, as well as bachelorette and bridal parties. My friends and I have a particular affinity for the Vino and Vinyasa class, a two-hour yoga and wine tasting experience (there’s also a two-hour Scotch and Stretch session for the guys!)
Conde Nast Traveler named The Well Spa at the Miramonte Resort the #1 Resort Spa in North America and for good reason – this Tuscan-inspired sanctuary merges the best of the desert and Mediterranean. For a lively and “out-of-the-box” therapeutic experience book the Pittura Festa, a “painting party” that can be tailored for couples and friends. This colorful treatment involves applying vibrantly colored pigments that contain enriching ingredients. The Miramonte is currently offering two special Girlfriend Getaway packages – click here for details.
The soothing sounds of fountains and garden waterfalls greet spa goers at Spa Esmeralda located at the grand Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa. The 13,300 square foot retreat offers a super girlfriend getaway destination with its wide selection of spa treatments, beauty services, outdoor whirlpool, steam rooms, saunas, relaxation lounges and more. Visiting this autumn? Indulge in the Pumpkin and Orange Ilike Organic Facial (60 minutes, $119); the pumpkin mask is loaded with vitamins A, E, and C, and beta-carotene!

Right when I was thinking I could become a vegetarian, along comes Eureka!, the latest Indian Wells restaurant to open its doors in this spectacular Southern California desert resort destination. Known for its 100% vegetarian fed, hormone and antibiotic free natural beef burgers (a delectable mouthful to say and eat) Eureka! in Indian Wells also features fresh baked breads, hand cut fries, locally sourced produce, gourmet salads, signature sandwiches and yummy desserts. Plus Eureka’s bar scene includes 30 craft beers, two wines on tap, and 21 small batch American whiskey’s served late seven nights a week.
Eureka bills its dining experience as “Eatertainment” combining gourmet food, an innovative bar program, live sports and live entertainment. Its modern yet rustic setting evokes a “neighborhood” feel; the perfect vibe for the warm, friendly community of Indian Wells. This is Eureka Restaurant Group’s ninth restaurant in California and the first in the Greater Palm Springs region. Eureka! is located at 74985 Highway 111 (corner of Cook Street and Highway 111) in the Village at Indian Wells shopping center. www.eurekarestaurantgroup.com.
