When my friends and I crave a superb meal in a sophisticated setting, combined with the most sensational scenery the Coachella Valley has to offer, we often head over to VUE Grille & Bar located in the upscale clubhouse at the Indian Wells Golf Resort.

Executive Chef Cale Falk helms the kitchen with a generous portion of culinary creativity, serving up an innovative farm-to-table menu that always features the freshest ingredients, with many locally sourced. The sublime Lobster Mac & Cheese—on both the lunch and dinner menus–is a local favorite—and there are several starters and entrees from which to choose. You can also graze on the small plate selections, as well as succulent rolls, sushi and sashimi at the popular sushi bar. Falk has recently added new items to the menu–like Alaskan Halibut and New Zealand Lamb Rack with a chestnut puree–that have received rave reviews at the restaurant’s seasonal wine dinners (the next one featuring Francis Ford Coppola’s winery is set for March 27.

Speaking of wine, the VUE offers an expansive wine list consisting of more than 150 domestic and international varieties, with 30 wines by the glass. Reserve a space at one of the VUE’s popular wine tasting events (next one is March 13) where you can sample and purchase award-winning vintages from several fine wineries.

You’ll find a lively setting in the VUE Bar adjacent to the main dining room with its multiple flat-screen televisions “in the round.” The action usually ramps up at Happy Hour when patrons can take advantage of daily drink and appetizer specials, craft cocktails and beer.

Indian Wells Golf Resort Receives 2014 CGCOA Course of the Year

The CGCOA Course of the Year Award is bestowed upon a golf facility that meets criteria in a variety of areas: course quality and resource management, commitment to player development & growth of the game, as well as community outreach.

The 2014 winner of this prestigious award is Indian Wells Golf Resort (Indian Wells, CA), a 36-hole facility, nestled in the Coachella Valley/Palm Springs Region─owned by the City of Indian Wells and managed by Troon Golf.

Exceptional Quality of the Course/s:

Since its redesign in 2006, The Indian Wells Golf Resort has set the bar high when it comes to course conditions and maintenance standards. Both the Celebrity Course and the  PlayersCourse rank among “the best” in California and throughout the country. The Celebrity Course served twice as the venue for the PGA Tour’s SkinsGame.

According to Golfweek magazine both courses are ranked in the Top 25 Best Municipal courses in the U.S. The PlayersCourse currently ranks in the Top 25 Courses you can Play in California. Golf Digest has Indian Wells listed as “Top 50 courses for women” in the U.S.

Greenskeeper.org has recognized Indian Wells Golf Resort with the Best PlayingConditions in Southern California while Trip Advisor has listed the resort as the #4 golf course experience in the country.

Exceptional Quality of Ownership and Management:

The resort’s management team and staff remain true to Troon’s mission: To create extraordinary guest and member experiences through personalized service, consistency, and uncompromising attention to detail.

Conservation and environmental stewardship are important to Troon Golf and its management team. Indian Wells Resort is committed to resource conservation throughout the entire property. With the issue of water being of paramount concern, the course maintenance team continues to work closely with the Coachella Valley Water District and its task force on ways to reduce water usage. The resort has already converted 15 acres of high water use irrigation to a low water drip system.  The golf course superintendent constantly monitors weather data obtained on site to generate transpiration rates and irrigation run times. All irrigation system watering is performed during “low demand” off-peak periods and all water features are operated through the use of timers.

The facility continues to use the latest technology to help ensure that pesticides are used at the lowest possible rate. Both golf courses serve as habitats for active wildlife. At Indian Wells you will also discover healthy fish populations in the numerous lakes found throughout the property.  In support of its commitment to the environment, the resort is seeking certification from Audubon International.

The resorts outstanding Contribution to the Community:

The City of Indian Wells is relatively small, with about 5000 full-time residents. The Indian Wells Golf Resort serves as a community hub for the city. It also serves as disaster relief center if-and-when the need arises.

Throughout the year, the resort hosts gatherings for local residents and offers a discounted golf rate to local property owners.

Indian Wells Golf Resort works closely with the Champions Volunteer Foundation, contributing funds to worthy causes such as:  The Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, Desert Blind & Handicapped, People Helping People, Palm Springs Stroke Activity Center, and The Boys & Girls Club, among others. Since 2002, the foundation has raised more than 1.2 million dollars for Coachella Valley charities.

Contribution to the Game:

The resort is committed to the development of golfers and future golfers. The resort takes part in all programs and initiatives rolled out by the PGA of America, and has even developed supporting programs of their own.

The PGA teaching staff at the resort is fully aware that juniors are the future of the game, and has created a JuniorGolfAcademy where children can come to learn the game in a friendly, fun, and safe environment. For families who are financially challenged, scholarships are provided.

Additionally, Indian Wells Golf Resort shares its practice facility with The First Tee of Coachella Valley and often donates clubs and golf accessories for underserved youth.

The resort also provides Get Golf Ready classes─ones that welcome new players to the game─and are extremely affordable too, at just $99 for the 5-lesson series. Free, weekly golf clinics are held for employees of the resort, encouraging their participation in the game.

You can certainly see why Indian Wells Golf Resort, is the 2014 CGCOA Course of the Year….Congratulations!
